Why WOW Kampung
For all of us at WOW Kampung, shaping leaders is no ordinary job. Every member of WOW Kampung is here because we have come to realise the great need to shape a more sustainable and purposeful way of living for our society.
Over the past four years, even prior to the founding of WOW Kampung, our key team members have been honing our strength in nurturing caring individuals, and a true sense of ownership for the environment.
Our team come from a variety of walks of life – from architecture, to hospitality, to engineering, to performing arts – all of them bringing their unique experience to teaching leadership, groundedness and sustainability.
The WOW Kampung team shares a passion to contribute to a more caring and a more sustainable way of living. This is a passion that touches every participant of our programmes.
Whether teaching environment, leadership or other areas, we believe the most important teaching is of values. Our team understand that the problems we see in the world today have their root in values that are lacking in our society today.
The programmes at our Kampung are based on our 5G philosophy – nurturing a society that is Gracious, Green, Giving, Grounded and Grateful. These five core values build a foundation for leadership in sustainable living.
Our team recognises that values are something that are transmitted through all our actions, and teachings. Therefore the team at WOW Kampung strive to cultivate a high standard of values within ourselves both professionally and in our personal lives so as to lead by example.
The unique Kampung Kampus is itself a product of teaching ownership and values to many thousands that have passed through our gates.
Our core team have volunteered many hours prior to the founding of WOW Kampung to build and maintain a space that is well suited to the teaching of values, and where taking pride in ones work and having a sense of ownership is evident all around.
As participants gain an understanding of how the community at Bottle Tree Park works, they gain an understanding of the value of ownership that is much more powerful than academic teaching.
The design of the space enables an experiential, mixed media approach in our education. Through workshops at our space, participants learn the necessary practical skills and understanding to complement their academic learning and put it into practice.
The result is a space that is, itself, a manifestation of the importance of values, ownership and hard work. The space provides tangible evidence to participants of what a sustainable living looks like, and our commitment to our students and to our future.
